If you go the Forums on Operation Sports you will notice how many threads are started that are about sliders for one game or another.
Thankfully the administrators for the site house those threads in a special folder.
My philosophy on game sliders (regardless of sports game) is simple:
Never touch the sliders until you dominate the A.I. on the hardest difficulty on a consistent basis. Even after dominating the competition, there still may not be a need to tweak anything.
I don’t see the point of tweaking sliders if you still struggle to beat teams on Varsity difficulty.
I think the reason players are are so worried/interested/obsessed with game sliders is that it’s too easy to blame the game for their own failures to beat a game.
Every time a players loses a game, instead of asking themselves what they did wrong, they’ll blame the game.
This leads to players going straight to the sliders to tweak the game to fit their needs.
I believe this leads to a never-ending quest to finding the perfect slider set that will give them “gaming nirvana”.
Besides, it is hard to override the difficulty you play on by a custom slider set.
Now if there is a weird glitch in a game and a slider can fix it, by all means, make the change. 06 is flawless so… 😛
About a year ago I wrote a post on MudTiger’s Varsity slider set.
That set has extreme sliders but it was still set on Varsity difficulty.
Those sliders were not a challenge to me because it was still set on Varsity.
You may be asking, “why can’t you just move up the difficulty?”
Any slider expert knows that custom sliders only work on certain difficulties so changing that difficulty will not solve the problem.
In the end, MudTiger’s sliders were supposed to increase special team’s touchdowns and bigger holes in the inside run game.
I can promise you that both facets of the game work just fine on default Heisman.
I’ve since removed that post as I don’t recommend them any more.
I still use default Heisman sliders and will continue to do so, probably until the end of time.
I still get great games from this “set” and realistic scores as well.
As an experienced gamer who has played all kinds of sports games, I will always recommend keeping the sliders at default until you dominate on the highest difficulty, and even then you probably won’t have to touch the sliders anyways.
You should never have to rack your brain over such things.
The next time you struggle with 06 or any game ask yourself:
“is it my fault or the game’s fault that I lost or did not like a particular facet of the game?”
Remember, this is all just my opinion so do what’s best for you to get the most enjoyment out of your games.
As usual, you can go to my Sliders & Settings page to find how I like to play 06.
